I love cooking. And moreover, I love to eat the food that I cook. Sounds cool right! Well, I love the way my mother cooks and definitely she has taught me a lot about the nuances of cooking right from the age of 13.
At first, I did not know how to prepare Tea, Coffee, prepare coffee decoction or even chop veggies. That was the time, around, 2006, when Masterchef Australia and Masterchef USA were hit shows on Television. Amazed by the chopping skills of the participants, I found myself, watching endless YouTube videos(mind you, internet was very pricey) as to how to chop onions(duh), julienne carrots, and also fruits in a creative way.
This way, I would look forward to help Amma to boil milk(yes that was my first lesson, to switch off stove when milk boils, which I sheepishly forget to do it even now).
Next task was to learn to wash utensils in a diligent manner.
I did not know to cook rice (LOL). I could not get the water level right every time(damn). I'd end up with either Ganji or half cooked rice, which my parents would relish without any complaints.
I also could not knead Chapathi dough, roll Chapathis, obviously how would I know all of this at the age of 13!!! But I was determined to learn this skill and would join Amma in the kitchen every time I could help.
Thanks to my utmost devotion to learn the craft of cooking, I can definitely say that, I can cook any dish(sans desserts) for my beloved family.
